Factories Act 1948 stipulates that factories employing 1,000 or more workers shall appoint Safety Officers as required by notification and Rules prescribed by State Governments. safety officer shall posses a diploma in industrial safety awarded by a recognized institution.Government has notified that every factory employing 1,000 workers or more shall appoint such safety officers on the following scale: – Number of Workers Ordinarily employed Number of Safety Officers 1,000 but not exceeding 2,000 One Above 2,000 but not exceeding 5,000 Two Above 5,000 but not exceeding 10,000 Three Above 10,000 Four Similarly the Safety Officers are required to be appointed in Construction Industry as prescribed in the Building & Construction Workers Act 1996 and Rules 2007. The number of officers required is bound to increase as the number of factories notified by the State Government increases and also the requirement of Safety Officers in Construction Industry (One Safety Officer for 500 Construction workers).
